Wichita - St. Joseph

Message from Pastor

We are so grateful at St. Joseph's Parish in Wichita to the donors of The St. Katharine Drexel Catholic School Fund who, by adding to our parish's limited financial resources, have made it possible for us to improve our students' chances of academic success. Because of the funding we've received, we have been able to make necessary repairs to the school, to continue our program of afterschool tutoring in reading and math, and to improve the technology that our teachers use in the classroom.

The support we've received from The Drexel Fund has also inspired our parishioners and has set a good example to our students as they learn to be good stewards in our parish and in the community.

Fr. Stuart Smeltzer

supports the needs of the Universal Church

  • We have a strong faith/family tradition that is the foundation of our school community.  The school and parish are a family from which grows generations of children who carry on the legacy of St. Joseph Catholic School.
  • We have small class sizes that allow our teachers to nurture and develop each child’s faith and academic life.
  • This year, our school received the Diocesan St. Robert Bellarmine Award in recognition of superior academic achievement on the Kansas assessment of English Language Arts.  Our school was also named one of the Banner Schools of the Diocese of Wichita.

What The Drexel Fund means for us

This year, we were able to hire a part-time teacher for our middle school.  The Drexel Fund continues to help pay for our students to attend Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.

Our Wish List

  • Staff salaries
  • A half-time paraprofessional to work with ELL students
  • Replacement of carpeting throughout the school building
