Winfield - Holy Name

Message from Pastor

Holy Name Catholic School is an integral part of the mission of Holy Name Parish. The opportunity for the pastor, principal, teachers, and volunteers to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ every school day with our children is an excellent way to strengthen the students' faith and the life of the Church, now and for the future. The monies that our tiny school has received from the St. Katharine Drexel Fund has allowed us to provide increases in the salaries of our dedicated teachers and support staff. No longer does our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) have to raise funds simply to keep our school open. As a result, the PTO fundraising has been used to purchase new textbooks and technology improvements. Our most recent additions include new religion textbooks and a mobile computer lab. The St. Katharine Drexel Fund allows Holy Name Catholic School to be not just a good Catholic school, but a great Catholic school. Thank you to all who make that possible.

What makes our school special

  • Our School has four classrooms and one hallway which creates a family atmosphere. The big kids look out for the little ones and the little ones look up to the big kids.
  • Our children are extremely loving and accepting of each other's differences and struggles. The way in which they reach out to each other is inspirational.

What The Drexel Fund means for us

Because we are so small, we have combined classes. This means that our teachers have to prepare double the lesson plans, and they have to wear many different hats.   We do not have enough staff to divide various jobs among committees so each person has to take on additional responsibilities. We use a volunteer as our librarian and art teacher, a Southwestern College student to assist with PE as an aide, and our principal teaches music.

The Drexel funds help support the supplies for the art and music program as well as help pay for the PE aide. In addition, the money we receive through The Drexel Fund makes it possible for the school to pay for a para educator to assist in the classrooms and help with students who are struggling academically, as well as to provide updated technology for our school.   We have worked hard to update our technology and each classroom now has a cart of 10 laptops; giving us a ratio of more than 1 laptop per two students.
